Among those speaking was long-time Marquette resident “Mickey” Johnson, who spoke with enthusiasm about the excitement surrounding the news of the proposed construction of the “Hotel Northland” on North Front Street when he was a senior in high school in 1917.

ISHPEMING – Few small cities in the United States are capable of generating the news copy that Ishpeming creates every year. If the weather cooperates, Ishpeming once again will be the scene of activity of a kind that will command national attention. Focal point of this activity will be the two-day FIS ski jumping tournament that began at Suicide Hill Jan. 11. The nation’s finest skiers have come to Ishpeming to compete for berths on the United States Olympic team.
