ISHPEMING — Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Marquette County are in the midst of delivering orders from their fourth annual popcorn fundraising project. Scout leaders and officials unloaded some of the 13-1/2 tons of popcorn sold during the project. The top selling unit for the third year in a row is Cub Pack 321 sponsored by the Ishpeming VFW Post, with Scott Parry as cubmaster. The pack sold 558 containers of regular popcorn and 444 boxes of microwave popcorn, earning more than $1,200 on the sale. Additional popcorn can be purchased at the Hiawathaland Boy Scout Council offices in Harvey.

MARQUETTE — Winners in the annual buck contest sponsored by Gibbs Sporting Supplies were announced today. Largest buck was a 225-pound specimen shot by Gerald Sherbinow of Norway St. James Swenor, also of Marquette placed second with a 222-point buck. A buck shot by Ken Ester of N. Third St., placed first in the “most points” group. His trophy had 13 points. Joseph Dan of Grosse Park, MI entered a 12-point trophy, good for second place. Smallest deer was a 97-pounder bagged by Richard Thorton. Second place went to a 104-pount, 6-point buck killed by John Berry of Marquette.
