Finnish dance to be held at Ishpeming Elks Club
ISHPEMING — Those who enjoy the celebration of Finnish heritage are invited to attend Pikkujoulu, or Little Christmas at the Ishpeming Elks Club from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The event — sponsored by the League of Finnish-American Societies U.P. Chapter Finlandia Foundation Affiliate — consists of a dance with live music featuring Wil Kilpela on accordion and Ken Holster on banjo and guitar.
In addition to the music, there will be door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, and a mini-Tori — translated to english as marketplace, with Finnish items of all kinds from Tanja Stanaway’s Heart of Finland and baked goods by Janet Wisuri. Refreshments of cardamom coffee bread and other goodies along with coffee and soft drinks will be available.
The Elks bar will be open.
Admission to the event is $5, and free to members of the League of Finnish-American Societies. Anyone joining the league that day will also be granted free admission.
Dues are $20 annually, or $10 per year without a subscription to the Suomi-USA magazine.
A short business meeting will be held at the event. For more information about the league or the Pikkujoulu event call 906-485-1971.
