Jacobetti home accepting donations

MARQUETTE — The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, located at 425 Fisher St. in Marquette, is open to accept donations from the public at its donation center.

The donation center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to collect items from the public.

“In this season of giving, many residents contact our agency asking how they can donate items to veterans living at our homes in Grand Rapids and Marquette,” Michigan Veterans Affairs Director James Robert Redford said in a news release. “We are happy to accept these kind offerings and truly appreciate the generosity of those who keep our veterans in mind, especially during the holidays.”

Redford said clothing items for both women and men, like sweats, undergarments, Velcro shoes, as well as toiletries like soap, shampoo and conditioner, shaving utensils and cream, and denture adhesives are commonly needed. Other items typically donated include batteries, postage stamps, large print books, magazines, CDs and DVDs. A complete list of needed items is located on the MVAA website, MichiganVeterans.com/p/Donate-to-Homes.

Additionally, tax deductible donations can be made to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Post Fund through the Michigan e-Store. Donations are used to provide veterans with special activities, entertainment and outings. The funds also help purchase dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids and other necessities.
