Oktoberfest returns to Negaunee
Event set for Saturday
NEGAUNEE — The leaves are turning and Negaunee is set to celebrate Oktoberfest this weekend.
The third annual event, sponsored by a group of downtown Negaunee businesses, promises fun, food and drink for all ages starting at noon Saturday and continuing into the evening.
Oktoberfest organizer Hanna Ockerman said the event was scheduled earlier in the season than previous years in hopes of better weather for the primarily outdoor event.
“It’s not in October this year due to unstable weather conditions,” Ockerman said.
Oktoberfest will feature food vendors, crafters, live music and Kids Corner of festivities including pumpkin painting will be held on Iron Street until 6 p.m., with other events scheduled into the evening hours.
“We invite you to enjoy ‘Gemutlichkeit,’ that feeling of warmth and friendship that we strive to provide in Downtown Negaunee,” the Downtown Negaunee Oktoberfest 2017 Facebook page states.
Ockerman said a Bavarian Costume Contest for adult male and female couples will be held at 2 p.m., along a Jackson’s Pit Stein Holding Contest and door prizes and basket prize drawings in participating downtown businesses.
Various businesses will also offer samples, specials and discounts in honor of the event, the Facebook post states.
Ockerman said she is encouraged by community response in advance of the festival.
“We really want the public to attend,” Ockerman said. Come support this community-wide family-friendly event.”
