Stage 3 of construction starts

MARQUETTE — Beginning today, U.S. 41 between Front Street and McClellan Avenue (M-553) in Marquette will experience traffic disruptions for the start of Stage 3 construction work.

This stage of the U.S. 41 portion of the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project will involve the closure of the two existing eastbound traffic lanes. Traffic will be diverted to one westbound and eastbound lane on the north side of U.S 41.

This stage is scheduled to be substantially complete in four weeks.

Seventh Street will still be closed to through traffic off U.S. 41 for this stage. The Grove Street intersection will also be closed. A temporary roadway has been constructed off Homestead Street to allow traffic to access Grove Street and the other local streets in that area. A temporary traffic signal will be set up for the temporary roadway to allow cross traffic to enter U.S. 41. City officials advise using caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing.

A staging schematic can be accessed at the city of Marquette website under the Marquette Hospital Transportation Improvements Project link at www.marquettemi.gov.

Bacco Construction Company is the general contractor for this project.

Small fire at restaurant Thursday

MARQUETTE — A small kitchen fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday at Hong Kong Buffet, located at 3060 U.S. 41 in Marquette Township.

The township fire department said that likely a deep fryer caught fire, but the restaurant’s Ansul fire-suppression system helped extinguish the fire along with hand-held fire extinguishers.

The Marquette County Health Department was to inspect the restaurant later.
