3 injured in rollover accident

MARQUETTE — Three people were injured in a one-vehicle rollover accident Sunday in Chocolay Township, according to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded to the scene at about 5:17 p.m. on U.S. 41 near Country Lane.

A 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by Bruce Gustafson, 64, of Marquette was southbound on U.S. 41 when, due to an undetermined medical condition, he lost consciousness, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the roadway, crashed through a guardrail, careened down a hill and overturned, according to the release.

Gustafson had to be extricated from the vehicle. There were two adult female passengers in the car, as well, but they were able to exit the vehicle on their own.

All three subjects were transported by EMS to UP Health System-Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Chocolay Township Fire Department.

No citations were issued, police said.
