MARQUETTE — Miss Gretchen Lambert of Ridge Street and Miss Christina Carlson of Arch Street were among the six young people making an American Youth Hostel trip in the York, Maine, area recently.
The girls had their first dip in the salty Atlantic Ocean at York Beach. They reported that it was not so cold as they had been led to expect, for they are used to the waters of Lake Superior.
During the trip, which began June 27 in Springfield and ended Aug. 7 in Boston, the hostelers have traveled 829 miles by bicycle, 175 by boat, 179 miles by bus and 240 miles by train. Chris and Gretchen, adding the distance from and to Marquette, will have traveled well over 3,500 miles by the time they reach home.
