MARQUETTE — A 23-year-old New Jersey man was lodged in the Marquette County Jail early today on a charge of felonius assault, said Marquette Police Department officials. The man allegedly assaulted a male with a car window ice scraper at about 3:40 this morning on the 400 block of East Hewitt Avenue, police said. The victim, who received a deep cut to the left hand, was treated at Marquette General Hospital, officials said. The suspect’s name has been withheld pending review of the incident by the prosecutor’s office.

MARQUETTE — City Manager George T. Meholick Jr. and Chief of Police Don McCormick have begun a study of a request by some residents on West Bluff Street for a change in the traffic setup in the block between North Third and North Fourth streets. The request, signed by 23 residents in the 200 block, asked that the commission abolish the present no-parking rule for one side of the street and permit parking on both sides. The petitions also asked that one-way traffic be placed into effect for that block. There are some blocks in the city (such as the 100 block of West Ridge Street) where parking is permitted on both sides of the street, but traffic is permitted to flow only in one direction.
