Attempted murder charged

MARQUETTE — A Gwinn man is lodged in the Marquette County Jail on an attempted murder and other charges.

The Forsyth Township Police Department arrested the man on Thursday at approximately 2 p.m. on charges of assault with intent to commit murder, assault with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence, according to a FTPD press release.

The charges, which were authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutors office, stem from an incident that occurred on Sunday on the 100 block of Warrior Street in Gwinn, the release states.

The Forsyth Township Police Department was assisted in the arrest by Chocolay Township Police Department and the Michigan State Police.

The name is being withheld pending arraignment.

Wilson Street closed for work

MARQUETTE — Wilson Street, between Grove Street and Forest Park Drive, is now closed to through traffic for Phase 1 reconstruction work. This is the first phase of three phases. This phase is expected to last three weeks.

The Wilson Street work will detour traffic to Grove Street and Forest Park Drive. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through this area and to be alert for construction, detour and advisory signing. A phasing schematic can be accessed at the City of Marquette Engineering Division website under the Wilson Street Reconstruction Project link at www.mqtcty.org.

Smith Construction Company is the general contractor for this project.
