Fuel truck tips onto side, spills 100 gallons in Wells Township
WELLS TOWNSHIP — A fuel truck carrying 8,200 gallons of fuel tipped on its side Saturday morning, spilling about 100 gallons of fuel in Wells Township, according to a press release from the Michigan State Police.
The truck from Stang WI Corp. was westbound on County Road 426 and County Road SY en route to the Arnold gas station, when the driver drove onto the soft shoulder causing the truck to tip onto its side.
The truck also spilled some diesel fuel from its fuel tanks. The driver, 59, was not injured, the release said.
Wells Township Fire Department responded to the scene with assistance from the Forsyth Township Fire Department and Marquette County Rescue Unit 131, according to the release.
The Department of Environmental Quality has been contacted, and will respond and evaluate and coordinate clean up, the release said.
The Marquette County Road Commission responded to the scene to assist with any road damage and issues. Krist Oil Company will assist and plans on draining the fuel out of the tanker into one of its tankers, the release said.
The Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Officer and Trooper who responded to the scene were also assisted by Forsyth EMS and Crossroads Towing.
