Scheduled power outage Friday

NEGAUNEE — The City of Negaunee will have a scheduled power outage from 2:30-6:30 a.m. Friday.

This outage is due to substation repairs. Questions can be directed to the city’s Electric Department at 475-9991.


Children’s Fishing Day Saturday

SENEY — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Seney Natural History Association, invites the public to participate in the 28th annual Children’s Fishing Day Saturday at Seney National Wildlife Refuge.

Anglers age 1-16 should register at the Visitor Center before fishing. The registration table will open at 9 a.m. Fish entries will be accepted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Fishing with non-lead tackle is allowed from the shore along the Fishing Loop, Show Pools, at C-3 Pool, and in designated rivers. Fishing stations will be set up along the Refuge’s Fishing Loop. A limited amount of fishing poles and bait are available for participants to use at these stations.

Activities and games for the whole family begin at noon at the Visitor Center including arts, crafts, games, and more. Certificates will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners for largest perch and pike in four age categories. Prizes, provided by local businesses, will be awarded by random drawing. A complimentary fish dinner for all participants and their families will be held at 3 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

Suspect arrested on larceny charge

MARQUETTE — Marquette police arrested Steven Joseph Schrum, 52, of Marquette, on Monday following a May 25 complaint of a larceny from a motor vehicle complaint within the city. Schrum was reported to have stolen items from an unattended vehicle and fled the scene on a stolen moped.

As a result of the investigation, charges were authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office, with the warrants for motor vehicle-unlawful use, breaking and entering a vehicle to steal property more than $200 but less than $1,000 and for operating-suspended, denied or revoked. The total bond on the warrants was for 10 percent of $17,500. Schrum was unable to post bond and was lodged in the Marquette County Jail.

Schrum was arraigned Tuesday in Marquette County’s 96th District Court where he pleaded not guilty to the B&E charge as well as the charge of operating-suspended, denied or revoked. A probable cause conference was scheduled for July 5, while a preliminary examination was set for July 19.


Road closures held today, Thursday

ELY TOWNSHIP — County Road 478 in Ely Township between County Road 482 and County Road CO will be closed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. today and Thursday for maintenance.

The Marquette County Road Commission announced the closure through a press release, adding that several culverts will be replaced during that timeframe.
