Students participate in Trades Career Day
More than 600 high school students from Marquette and Alger counties attended an Industrial Trades Career Day at the Marquette County Fairgrounds on Thursday. Students learned about welding, brick-laying, automotive, mining, emergency response and several other skilled trades. Tony Retaskie, a representative of the Upper Peninsula Construction Council, said the fair benefits students as well as local businesses. “This is an important activity that supports talent development and addresses the needs of our local community,” Retaskie said. Industrial Trades Career Day is a cooperative effort between organizations such as the Upper Peninsula Construction Council, Marquette Alger Regional Educational Services Agency, the UPWARD Talent Council, Michigan Works!, local trades and support from area schools.
