Reading to launch books of poetry
MARQUETTE — Six local poets will launch their latest work in six books of poetry on Saturday, following the city’s Art Awards ceremony.
The reading “Stars in the Sky” will take place at 8 p.m. in the Sky Room of the Landmark Inn.
Kathleen Heideman will read from her new book, “Psalms of the Early Anthropocene;” Jesse Koenig will read from, “Brief Perversions;” Milton Bates, “Always on Fire;” Janeen Rastall and Richard Rastall will read from their jointly written, “True Companions;” and Amber Rose Edmondson from two new books, “Darling Girl” and “Lost Birds of the Iron Range.”
The Marquette Arts and Culture Center invites the community to attend the 21st Annual Art Awards, honoring outstanding individuals in our community. The awards will be held Saturday at the MACC in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library located at 217 N. Front St.
The public is invited to a celebratory reception beginning at 6 p.m. in conjunction with Lake Superior Art Association’s Annual Member Show. Light fare will be provided by Border Grill.
At 7 p.m. the Annual Arts Awards will begin in the Community Room of the library. There will be performances by select award recipients and a ceremony to honor their achievements. This event is free and open to the public with a “black and white” suggested dress code to match the atmosphere of the Annual Art Awards.
