Neighbor dispute results in standoff in Gogebic County

MARQUETTE — A neighbor dispute in Ironwood Township Tuesday afternoon turned into a standoff that ended with an Ironwood Township resident being taken into custody, according to a press release from the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded to a neighbor dispute call at about 2 p.m. involving the 47-year-old township resident.

The incident turned into an altercation with law enforcement. The suspect reportedly retreated into his residence where he barricaded himself with weapons.

After negotiations failed, officers breached the residence and the man was taken into custody.

He is currently being held at the Gogebic County Jail on charges related to the incident, with the Gogebic County prosecutor possibly filing more charges as the investigation continues.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, Gogebic-Iron COunty SWAT and Beacon Ambulance, according to the release.
