Changes to rental fire safety code

MARQUETTE — Changes to the City of Marquette’s Rental Fire Safety Code, as well as a new fee structure, were approved at the May 8 meeting of the Marquette City Commission.

These new rules and fees take effect on Thursday. A two-month grace period, from May 18 through July 31, will be in effect to allow property owners to comply with short-term registration requirements without a civil infraction citation being issued for previous non-registration.

Currently registered properties that have not specifically been registered as a short-term rental, but are being rented as such, will need to complete a new registration. Properties that have already registered as a short-term rental will be notified if any additional information is required. Updated forms and ordinance information will be available Thursday on the city website or at the Marquette City Fire Department, 418 S. Third St. For questions, contact the Marquette Fire Department Rental Program at 225-8941.
