BIG BAY – The Powell Township Board is at least partially responsible for the loss of ambulance service in the township. That’s the opinion of Dr. Dennis Whitehead, medical director of Marquette County Emergency Services. The board recently denied 16-year-old Matt Bowyer of Big Bay an opportunity to help provide ambulance service, despite the fact that Bowyer completed training courses at Northern Michigan University, and received a state emergency ambulance attendant license. The Powell Township EMS decided this week to suspend ambulance runs from the township because of problems in securing volunteers for the service.
