3 injured in Marquette Township car accident
MARQUETTE — One Ishpeming woman and two women from Sault Ste. Marie were injured in a three-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon along US-41 in Marquette Township, according to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. near Wright Street.
A 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Ashley Marija McIntire, 18, of Marquette was travelling west on US-41 when it merged into the inside lane, forcing a 1996 Lincoln Town Car driven by William Francis Oconnor, 65, of Ishpeming, to take evasive action, according to the release.
As he did, Oconnor’s vehicle struck a 2014 Subaru station wagon, which was stopped in a nearby median crossing. The Subaru was driven by Christina Michelle Knepp, 24, of Sault Ste. Marie.
In addition to Knepp and her passenger, 32-year-old Michelle Anne Brabant of Sault Ste. Marie, a female passenger in the Oconnor vehicle, Wendy L. Niemi, 46, of Ishpeming was injured in the crash.
All three were transported by UP Health Systems EMS to UPHP-Marquette for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
McIntire was cited for improper lane use.
Assisting on the scene was the Marquette Township Fire Department and UPHP EMS.
Calls to the sheriff’s office and hospital regarding the condition of the patients were not answered by press time.
