MUNISING — In the old days of the outdoor rink in Munising, a losing battle was fought by the volunteer firefighters to keep the ice smooth during snow storms and warm spells. The new Zamboni machine, driven by arena manager, Phil Fedoruk, has the Alger Centennial Arena ice in perfect shape after 30 minutes. It was also noted that only 150 gallons of water are needed to flood the new arena, instead of the 500 gallons needed by the old outdoor rink of the same size.

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming-Negaunee chapter of SPEBSQUSA is preparing for the annual “Parade of Barbershop Quartets” to be held in the Ishpeming High School auditorium at 8 p.m. March 30. The Hematite Chorus, under the direction of Walter Toupin, has been diligently preparing a show which will surpass the well-accepted performances of the past. First plans for a show of this type begin well in advance. The local chapter began booking top quartets last April.
