MARQUETTE — For about eight years now, the L.G. Kaufman Foundation has been underwriting a third of the cost of the school liaison officer in the Marquette Police Department, with the MPD and Marquette Area Public Schools picking up the rest. Henry J. Bothwell of the foundation board visited the school to make this year’s donation and be introduced to the new liaison officer, Cpl. Mike Angeli. Marquette Senior High School Principal Joe Sullivan made the introductions. The liaison officer works with the public and parochial schools in Marquette and has an office at MSHS.

ISHPEMING — David Junak, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Junak, is the first Mining Journal newspaperboy to win an airplane ride to Chicago for an all-expenses-paid educational trip in the economy reading plan contest. Fred E. Harkin, circulation manager for The Mining Journal, announced this morning that Junak became the first carrier to compile 75 points in the combination newspaper-magazine contest, thereby assuring him of a ride via North Central Airlines to Chicago on May 15-16.
