Some 6,479 pounds of food was brought to the WLUC-TV6 station Wednesday night for its 35th annual canathon, which gathers non-perishable foods from counties all across the Upper Peninsula. TV6 creative services manager and canathon director Scott Zerbel stated, “The total number as of the end of the program last night is 137,000 pounds. We’re still waiting on some results from Marquette, Dickinson, and Ontonagon counties.” Even so, the canathon has already beat last year’s record of 133,000 pounds. The food will be distributed to local St. Vincent de Paul’s and Salvation Army, programs which will distribute the food to those in need.
