Trapper’s ed class to be held

ESCANABA – The Upper Peninsula Trappers Association is sponsoring a Trapper’s Education Class at the Pocket Park Building at the U.P. State Fairgrounds on Sept. 17.

It is open to kids or adults who want to learn how to trap in a safe, responsible manner. This is a comprehensive course covering such topics as history, ethics, safety, traps, trapping equipment, use of attractors, running a trapline, preparing pelts for market, etc.

The class will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $10 per student charge. Lunch is provided free of charge.

Students must register at the Escanaba office of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The deadline for registration is Aug. 29. Call the DNR at 906-786-2351 for more information.

The class is limited to 20 students and there is a lot of homework that must be completed prior to the class, so students should register as soon as possible.

For further information on the class, call Bob Steinmetz at 906-786-6265 or email him at bobsteinmetz@charter.net.
