Marquette Regional History Center fundraiser draws big crowd

The Marquette Regional History Center and Literacy Legacy Fund held a wine tasting fundraising event Thursday evening at the history center. Everyday Wines provided expertise and a thoughtful wine selection for attendees to sample. There were raffles for prizes from local businesses, an out of print copy of Fred Rydholm’s Superior Heartland and refreshments. Local history authors Tyler Tichelaar and Sonny Longtine read excerpts from their books. Actor Jessica “Red” Bays did a dramatic reading of a historical piece from the J. M. Longyear Library.
Volunteer Shan Marlette pours attendee Chip Truscon a glass of Poggio Vignoso Chianti. Everyday Wines chose this brand in honor of the strong Italian population in the U.P., and because the sculptor of Father Marquette statue came from Tuscany, the home of the Chianti.
