MARQUETTE — Tuesday brought record-setting rains, with 0.84 inches falling, nearly doubling the 1996 record of 0.49 inches for Oct. 9, according to the National Weather Service.

With heavy rains continuing to fall throughout today, city officials have announced Lakeshore Boulevard in Marquette is closed from Hawley Street to Fair Avenue until further notice due to high wave activity causing flooding.

Motorists are advised to use Presque Isle Avenue as a detour route during the closure, police said. An announcement will be released by the city when the closure is lifted.
