Former Finlandia, NMU football coach arrested for domestic violence

Boss

MARQUETTE — The head football coach at Finlandia University and former Northern Michigan University assistant football coach was arrested today and charged with one count of aggravated assault domestic violence.

Robert Boss, 34, who school officials said was separated from his position with Finlandia University Wednesday, was lodged in the Marquette County Jail before being released on a $5,000 bond today.

The arrest stems from a charge filed Aug. 10, 2016, according to records obtained from the 96th District Court in Marquette County.

NMU Chief Marketing Officer Derek Hall said in a statement that university officials received information allowing NMU’s equal opportunity officer/Title IX coordinator to immediately open an investigation.

“The complainant is a former student and the respondent of the complaint is a former employee,” Hall said in an email today. “NMU has cooperated with local authorities in their concurrent investigation. Northern Michigan University takes sexual harassment and assault complaints seriously by conducting timely and thorough investigations and taking appropriate actions.”

More information will be provided in Saturday’s edition of The Mining Journal.
