County officials seeking applicants for various boards

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Board is seeking applicants for various boards and commissions, with appointments scheduled to be made at its Dec. 19 meeting.

In all, there are nine panels seeking to fill 16 vacancies. Applications for all positions are due in the Marquette County Clerk’s Office by Dec. 15.

The following list of vacancies was provided by the county clerk’s office:

Airport Advisory Board

The seven-member board advises the director of operations and county board on policy and programs at Sawyer International Airport. The board is seeking an airline representative to fill a three-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2020 and an at-large representative to fill a two-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2019.

Airport Zoning Board of Appeals

This panel advises construction and land-use decisions within 10 miles of Sawyer International Airport and has two positions open for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2019.

Board of Health

The seven-member board is responsible for governing the operations at the Marquette County Health Department through its director. It also acts as the board of appeals for all water, sewer or health permit appeals received by the health department. The board is seeking two candidates to fill two three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2020.

Building Code Board of Appeals

The board is a five-member body appointed for two-year terms that hears appeals regarding building code department decisions and may allow variances in certain areas. The board is seeking applicants for two vacancies, both terms expiring Dec. 31, 2019.

Economic Development Corporation of Marquette County

The nine-member body is responsible for encouraging the development of local economy by implementing programs through its director. Seven members are appointed to six-year terms in the following categories: manufacturing, hospitality, retail, medical service, individuals and organizations, financial, utilities and transportation, and developers. Two county commissioners are appointed to one-year terms. The board is seeking one individual and organizations to fill a six-year term ending Dec. 31, 2023.

Land Bank Authority

The mission of the Marquette County Land Bank Authority is to work collaboratively with local governmental units and community organizations in finding the best way to return tax-foreclosed properties to the tax roll. There are two vacancies for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2020.

Marquette County Community Corrections Advisory Board

The board is a 13-member body responsible for developing comprehensive community corrections plans and applying for funding in the Office of Community Alternatives within the Michigan Department of Corrections in order to carry out the plan through its coordinator. The board is seeking applicants to fill two two-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2019. One of the applicants should be a business representative and the other an at-large representative.

Planning Commission

The seven-member board’s main duty is to carry out the county comprehensive plan. The planning commission is also involved in solid waste issues and recreational planning. Each member is appointed to a three-year term. The board is seeking applicants to fill two terms expiring Dec. 31, 2020.

Veterans Affairs Committee

Appointees to the Veterans Affairs Committee must have served in the U.S. military or have received an armed forced campaign or service medal. In addition, members must also demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience in public service, business or finance. There is one open three-year term ending Dec. 31, 2020. To be considered for the position, applicants must provide a copy of DD-214 and a recommendation letter from a chaptered veterans’ organization with their application.
