No injuries, damage in small Negaunee Township brush fire

Firefighters work to extinguish a small brush fire behind an unoccupied trailer off M-35 in Negaunee Township Tuesday afternoon.

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire Tuesday afternoon off M-35 in Negaunee Township.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene just before 3 p.m. to find a small brush fire behind an unoccupied trailer.

Negaunee Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Kontio said there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, and nearby structures did not sustain any damage.

Kontio said it is believed a resident was burning brush in the area.

Also assisting on the scene were personnel from the Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette Township Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.
