3 arrested for property damage

MARQUETTE — Three Marquette men have been arrested in connection to a recent string of property damage reports, reportedly caused by a pneumatic gun.

The men, ages 19 to 20, were each taken into custody on three-count felony warrants — one count malicious destruction of personal property valued at more than $1,000 but less than $20,000; one count weapons, felony firearm, pneumatic gun; and one count weapons, firearms, possession of a loaded firearm in or upon a vehicle — issued by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office.

The subjects allegedly used the gun to shoot out windows, targeting vehicles, houses and outbuildings throughout the city of Marquette and Marquette Township, according to a release from the Marquette City Police Department.

Police received a call around 2 a.m. Monday reporting a suspicious vehicle with occupants possibly shooting an air rifle out of the car. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle in north Marquette, and made contact with the three occupants.

According to the release, the MPD and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office received more than 30 reports of damaged property.

Bond for each of the suspects was set at $3,500, according to the MPD.

One of the 19-year-old suspects is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:15 a.m. May 1. Another suspect, also 19, is slated to be arraigned at 8:15 a.m. on May 15.

The third suspect, 20, is currently lodged at the Marquette County Jail and is expected to be arraigned sometime today.

The Mining Journal does not name individuals alleged of a crime until after arraignment.
