Unoccupied Ishpeming residence sustains damage from fire
ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Police Department is seeking information about a structure fire that occurred at an unoccupied residence in the city of Ishpeming on Sunday.
The city of Ishpeming Fire Department was called to the structure at 600 N. First St. at 3:05 p.m. according to an IFD press release.
Fire crews found flames and heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building upon arrival at the scene.
“The fire extended from the porch into the attic and roof areas,” the release stated.
No injuries were reported, but heavy fire, smoke and water damage occurred to the residence, which is owned by Michael Laurin of Ishpeming.
The intense heat from the blaze melted the siding on a neighboring home, the release stated.
Fire crews were able to knock down the fire and keep the fire from spreading further and were able to clear the scene by 4:40 p.m.
The city of Negaunee Fire Department, Marquette County 131 Rescue and Ishpeming Police Department responded to the incident.
Upper Peninsula Power Company and SEMCO were also assisting on scene.
The structure was not insured, according to the release, and the fire remains under investigation at this time.
