Blemke competent to stand trial

BLEMKE

MARQUETTE — Derek Blemke, accused of fatally stabbing a 21-year-old Marquette man in June, has been found competent to stand trial.

While Blemke has been determined mentally fit to stand trial, officials are still waiting on a psychological report regarding Blemke’s criminal responsibility, which would determine whether he was criminally insane at the time of the incident, according to Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wiese.

Blemke, 25, of Ishpeming, was accused of stabbing 21-year-old Brandon Allen LaFavre of Marquette to death on June 24 inside an apartment on Wright Street in Marquette.

No further court dates have been scheduled.
