‘Catch the Christmas Spirit’ set in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE — Marquette Township is hoping to “Catch the Christmas Spirit” Wednesday as it hosts its annual event featuring Christmas carols, a tree lighting ceremony and other festive activities.

The Catch the Christmas Spirit event will begin with a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Westwood Mall, with Christmas carols to be performed by the Marquette Senior High School Redmen Chorale.

Santa Claus is expected to be escorted to the event by members the Marquette Township Fire Department and will be available for photos.

However, authorities are also on the lookout for the Grinch.

For several years, the Grinch has allegedly tried to steal the township’s Christmas spirit, but each attempt resulted in his arrest by deputies with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. Police are expected to attend the event again this year.

Free refreshments provided by Marquette Township businesses will be offered, as well.
