3 arrested Tuesday in series of armed robberies
MARQUETTE – Three Delta County men were arrested and lodged on charges related to a series of armed robbery incidents in Chocolay Township Tuesday morning, according to a press release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
Two of the suspects are 18 years old and one is 22 years old.
According to the release, two men in black clothing and masks at around 6:15 a.m. allegedly entered America’s Best Value Inn at 1010 M-28 East in Harvey and demanded money from the clerk at knifepoint.
The clerk, a licensed concealed pistol permit holder, refused and pointed his pistol at the suspects, who then fled on foot to a waiting vehicle, according to the release. The clerk then called 911 to report the incident and a description of the suspects.
The suspects allegedly fled south on U.S. 41.
At approximately 6:20 a.m., a 911 call from Kassel’s Korner at 6400 U.S. 41 indicated that two customers at the store had allegedly been robbed by two males yielding a knife and a baseball bat, according to the release.
The suspects fit the description of the suspects in the incident at America’s Best Value Inn, and a description of the vehicle was provided at that time, according to the release.
A short time later, Marquette City Police and a sheriff’s office unit pulled the suspect vehicle over on U.S. 41 near Heidtman Road, according to the release. The three males were taken into custody without incident and are lodged at the Marquette County Jail.
The release said cash was recovered subsequent to the arrests, but doesn’t disclose the amount. The investigation is ongoing.
Escanaba Public Safety has been notified due to the suspects’ possible link with the robbery of a hotel in Escanaba, according to the release.
