Jury finds Nelson guilty

MARQUETTE – A jury deliberated roughly three hours Thursday before finding Michael Nels Nelson guilty of leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident in Powell Township last December.

Nelson, 46, of Big Bay was charged with the single count related to the death of Robin Rahoi, 54, of Big Bay. The accident occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 17 on Lighthouse Road, about two miles east of Big Bay.

The jury trial in Marquette County Circuit Court began Monday.

Court staff said jurors began deliberating at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday and the verdict was entered at about 3:30 p.m. Staff did not have an indication whether a date for sentencing was available.

Marquette County Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Wiese was unavailable for comment this morning.

Defense attorney Sarah Henderson, of the Marquette law firm Casselman & Henderson, had said she does not comment on court cases.
