Life drawing — Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will once again hold its popular, free, “Life Drawing” class from noon to 2 p.m. Basic drawing materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring their own. This is a “drop in” class — there is no registration. No experience is necessary. All models for the class will be volunteers from the community.

History — The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will open a new exhibition titled “From Chalk to Light Boards: Technology at NMU.” The exhibition will feature dozens of artifacts, not only from the Beaumier Center’s collection, but from offices and storage facilities as well. A free opening reception with food and refreshments will be held at 1 p.m. in the center’s Gries Hall gallery.

Gardener — The Upper Peninsula Master Gardener Association presents The Foundation for Successful Gardening: Soils, Amendments and Composting by Jim Isleib from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library Shiras Room. Isleib, the Upper Peninsula crop production educator with MSU Extension-Alger County, will lead a discussion on the foundation of successful gardening. Among topics to be discussed is what makes a good, productive soil for general gardening and composting tips to make at-home bins a success. This program is free. Polka/Variety Dance — is planned at the American Legion Hall in west Ishpeming with music by Wil Kilpela & Friends. The event will be from 2-5 p.m. Admission is $8. Luncheon will be available from 2-3:30 p.m.; drinks available at the bar.

Museum After Dark: A Museum Adventure — is planned from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Marquette Regional History Center. Advance ticket purchase recommended and on sale now and will also be available at the door. Tickets are $9 for 18 and under, $5 for adults.

Concert — Singer-songwriter Annie Humphrey, the Native American Music Awards’ 2018 Artist of the Year, will perform at Northern Michigan University. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Humphrey’s performance is being held in conjunction with the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center’s exhibition, Ancestral Women. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $1 for NMU students.
