Free health screening —  U.P. Home Health & Hospice announces free health care screenings for the month of November throughout Marquette County. Included in the free screenings are blood pressure, pulse and glucose checks and a $5 charge to have cholesterol level checked. This date: Forsyth Senior Citizens Center – 11 a.m.- noon, 165 N. Maple St., Gwinn – 346-9862.

Flu shots for veterans — Flu vaccinations are now available for veterans enrolled in VA health care. Veterans may request the flu shot at their regularly scheduled VA appointments. Veterans may also get vaccinated during free walk-in flu shot clinics at Marquette VA Clinic on Fridays, Nov. 2 and 9, from noon-3 p.m. (ET) each day. No appointment is necessary. The clinic is located at 1414 W. Fair Ave., Suite 285. Veterans may call 800-215-8262, extension 34758, for updated VA Flu Shot Clinics in the Upper Peninsula and northeast Wisconsin.

Fish fry — The Ishpeming VFW Post 4573, 310 Bank St., will have a fish fry each Friday from 4-7 p.m. The menu features a variety of fish, baked or fried, ribeye steak, chicken and burgers. St. Christopher’s Harvest Bazaar — will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature crafts, books, a bake sale and a country store. Lunch will be available. The church is located at the corner of Badger and Ontario in Marquette Township.

High School Art Show — Starting this date, Peter White Public Library TeenZone. Marquette Alternative High School students have created original posters expressing their opinions on social issues of importance to them. Art teacher Joy Bender-Hadley instructed her students to use no words, or as few words as possible, in designing their posters. The public is welcome to stop by the TeenZone anytime to view these pictures that are worth a thousand words. Free. Fall bazaar — St. Michael Catholic Church’s Altar Society in Marquette will host its annual Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A White Elephant sale will take place in the Monsignor Dunleavy Hall, corner of Heard Court and Kaye Avenue. Items available include crafts, baked goods, collectibles, children’s items, jewelry, books, holiday items, and many miscellaneous household goods. A soup, salad and dessert luncheon will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p m. Cost of luncheon is $7 for adults or $3 for children under 12.
