2nd Thursday Creativity Series

MARQUETTE — The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum will host its Second Thursday Creativity Series from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today.

This week’s focus is on “Entreprenuering,” with 10 home-based businesses each providing hands-on fun for kids. A percentage of purchases will go to support the museum. Live Music, free Culver’s frozen custard and more will be at the event. Admission is free.

Yarnwinders set to meet today

MARQUETTE — Yarnwinders Fiber Guild will meet at the Chocolay Township Hall at 4:30 p.m. today to help warp the looms.

The group will then have a meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Mackinaw Boat Symposium held

MARQUETTE — The Great Lakes Mackinaw Boat Alliance announces its third annual Mackinaw Boat Symposium.

This year’s symposium is taking place in Munising Friday and is followed up by the Grand Island Challenge regatta on Saturday.

Friday’s symposium will take place at the Munising City pavilion, located at the city marina, and feature morning and afternoon sessions. The topic of the sessions will be maritime history of the region including fishing, traveling, wooden boats, and, of course, Mackinaw Boats.

The Grand Island Challenge regatta on Saturday is open to all types and sizes of oar and paddle powered boats. The regatta will feature a morning tow to Murray bay, for sprint racing.

Participants will break for a picnic lunch on the shores of Grand Island. Picnic lunch is available for a small fee for those who are interested.

After lunch, there will be a challenge race back to Munising marina.

A return tow will be available if there is weather or crew concerns.

Both days events start at 10 a.m.

Friday’s events take place at Binsfield Bayshore Park, 355 Elm, Munising. The gathering point Saturday for the transit to Grand Island is: The Brown’s Addition Boat Launch, 1204 Commercial St., Munising .

The $5 launch fee is waived for symposium participants. Ample parking is available for vehicles and trailers.

MKC to host annual dog show

MARQUETTE — Marquette Kennel Club will host its 43rd annual All Breed Dog Show, Obedience and Rally Trial at the Marquette County Fairgrounds.

It will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost is $5 per car.

Two different shows each day with judges from around the United States.
