Spotlight: NARFE chapter celebrates 35th anniversary

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1900 celebrated its 35th anniversary at its annual Pasty Picnic, held July 25 at the Crossroads Restaurant near Marquette. Attendees included, from left, Dale Ollila, chapter president; Sara Cambensy, District 109 State Representative; Connor Raak, area representative for U.S. Senator Gary Peters; Jay Gage, area representative for U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow; Ken Andersen, chapter second vice president; Maggie Morgan, chapter secretary; and Clyde Morgan, chapter first vice president and treasurer and State Area 2 vice president. Other area legislators and candidates were invited but were unable to attend. Members enjoyed a special anniversary cake, and certificates were presented or will be mailed to those with 30 years or more of chapter membership. A memorial service honored recently deceased chapter members. Chapter 1900 includes members from the Marquette, Escanaba, Rapid River, Houghton, Hancock and Ontonagon areas. The group’s next regular meeting is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room B of the Marquette Senior Center, 300 W. Baraga Ave.
