‘The Illustrated Man’ discussion

MARQUETTE — At 7 p.m. July 11, the Peter White Public Library will be hosting a meeting of its science fiction book group, Klava Klub, at Contrast Coffee, located at 600 N. Third St., Marquette.

This month the club will discuss the 1951 classic, “The Illustrated Man” by Ray Bradbury. In this collection of 18 short stories, Bradbury examines the strangeness, beauty, and horror that exist on Earth and throughout the universe. The stories are linked by the tattoos on a man’s body, allegedly created by a time-travelling woman. As the narrator looks at the tattoos, they become animated, telling tales of the future.

Feeding America truck in Ishpeming

ISHPEMING — The Feeding America Mobile Food Truck will be distributing food in the Ishpeming VFW parking lot starting at 9:30 a.m. July 12.

Bring a sturdy container and someone to help if unable to call 50 pounds of food alone.

Anyone in need is eligible.

Legion service officer assistance

MARQUETTE — American Legion Department Service Officer Lisa Clark will be in Marquette from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 12 at American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff St.

She is available to assist all veterans and families of veterans with claim preparation, presentation, counsel and appeal counsel at no cost to the veterans. Anyone who believeshe/she may be eligible for VA compensation on health, education and/or employment issues, stop by Post 44 and see Clark.

Be aware that this visit may be canceled if the area is experiencing bad weather.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby meeting

MARQUETTE — The public is invited to join the Marquette Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for the group’s monthly meeting in the Lion’s Room of the Peter White Public Library at noon July 14.

Note: this meeting will begin 30 minutes earlier than usual.

The national CCL group will present a video-conference to the local chapters during these meetings, which are regularly scheduled the second Saturday of each month.

‘Night of Music’ to be held July 12

CHATHAM — The Sion Lutheran Church, on M-94 in Chatham will be hosting a “Night of Music” concert at 7 p.m. July 12 featuring the Gospel Guys, Tara Pokela, Don Miller, Ron McGrady, the Sion Lutheran Choir, the Saturday Praise Choir and other special talent from the congregation.

The concert is free of charge and open to all wishing to attend.
