Diabetes support — group meeting from 5-7 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum for parents of children living with type 1 diabetes. The group will be meeting every third Thursday of the month. Parents will have a chance to meet and discuss issues, concerns, and get advice from other parents who may be going through similar situations with their children. Snacks will be served. Free Literacy — A free Family Literacy Night at the Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum is planned. The public is invited to join in for a night of reading and fun with the theme of Reading With Puppies. The event is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and there will be prizes, crafts, refreshments, free books, and more. This is a free event sponsored by the Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan.

Knitting Guild — The UP North Knitting Guild will meet from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Peter White Public Library in the lower level. There will be a presentation of how to block knit items. Anyone who has something to be blocked can bring it to the meeting.

Building Love: Imagine — “Book Study: the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. In 1951, scientists took cells from Henrietta Lacks, a poor black farmer, without her consent or knowledge, selling them to billions. This biography raises issues of race, ethics, and medicine. Vasa –The monthly meeting of the Vasa Lodge of Marquette is at 7 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, and will feature guest speaker Fred Anderson, who will give a talk and presentation about the sport of luge. He will bring examples of luge sleds to show the audience. The program is free of charge and the public is invited to attend. Fringe Festival — Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre is presenting its third annual Fringe Festival in the Panowski Black Box Theatre. Three different theatrical pieces performed, produced and directed by students in the theater and entertainment arts program will be performed each evening. The Fringe Festival will feature “The Valentine Fairy,” “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare” and “Antigone.” 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the public, $10 for students and $5 for NMU students. They can be purchased at any NMU EZ ticket outlet. The Fringe Festival contains some adult language and themes.

SMART Recovery — is an abstinence based recovery group that meets at 7:30 p.m. at 102 W. Washington St. Suite 114, Marquette. The program is based on scientific knowledge and reason. Spirituality, religion and higher powers are not part of the program. SMART Recovery is a program for all kinds of addictive behaviors.
