Blue Champagne hold free concert

MARQUETTE — The popular local band Blue Champagne is back performing after a year hiatus and will be giving a free concert with optional dancing at the Peter White Library in the Community Room from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Admission is free with a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Blue Champagne specializes in swing, easy listening jazz, and pop standards from many decades. They also play all kinds of dance music and will feature some holiday classics at this performance. The band had to call it quits when two of the three members moved away last year. Warren MacDonald, their original drummer, retired from his music store business and relocated to San Diego with his wife Cheryl to live near their daughter Anna. Mary Lou Pesola, (vocals/guitar) moved downstate for a while, but had a change of original plans and moved back to the area recently.

Bob Buchkoe, the only member still in Marquette, was delighted to revive this band, which has enjoyed wide popularity throughout the area for several years. With the addition of a new drummer, Scott Stephenson, the band was ready to roll again.

The evening promises to be fun for the whole family. Light refreshments will be supplied. The public is invited to come and dance or just sit and enjoy the music with family and friends.

Any donations to the food shelter will be greatly appreciated, as they are in serious need for them at this time. For more information, call 226-7273.
