Dobson to offer demonstrations

MARQUETTE — At the upcoming Christmas Craft Show at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Robert Dobson will be giving laptop demonstrations of historical items of the western Marquette area to all who wish to look up family names, or any other historical items found on 1,739 pages from the Ishpeming Iron Ore (1878 to 1954) and the Negaunee Iron Herald (1873 to 1968) newspapers.

The computer searches will locate the names, numbers, or places, as many times as they are found by the computers in a matter of seconds.

Dobson will be at booth 238 as in previous years and there will be no charges for the public searching. The historical notes will be available for sale on Dobson Publications CDs and USBs. Paper and pens will be available for taking personal notes of searching results.

The TV6 Christmas Craft Show will be Dec. 8-10. Hours are 5-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10.

‘A Christmas Tapestry’ to be held

MARQUETTE — “A Christmas Tapestry 2017- Music of the Season” will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Fair Ave., Marquette.

Performers include The Marquette County Chamber Chorale, The Marquette Male Chorus, both directed by Wayne Hanmer and accompanied by Dawn Betts. Tintinniere, Richard Beyers, handbells, and Anna Martin, piano, will also perform. Music will include sacred and popular Christmas favorites including selections from Vivaldi’s “Gloria.”

The Chamber Chorale will take the audience on musical sledding adventure with “Toboggan for Two.” The Male Chorus will wish everyone a “Holly, Jolly Christmas.”

There will also be carols for audience participation. A freewill donation will be taken at the door. For more information, call 249-9867.

Dance being held at Ishpeming VFW

ISHPEMING — Ishpeming VFW Post 4573 will be hosting a dance from 2-6 p.m. Saturday.

The Richie Yurkovich Band will be playing a variety of music. The cost is $10 at the door.

Refreshments and a meal will be available for purchase.

German-style Christmas market

NEGAUNEE — As part of the yearlong Reformation 500th Anniversary Celebration, a German-style Christmas Market is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 520 U.S. Hwy 41 E, Negaunee.

The public is invited to join in the festivities and activities, and visit the crafts, quilt, food and bakery tables. Activities for the kids have been planned and a soup luncheon and dessert bar will be available.

Events to be held at MSU Extension

MARQUETTE — MSU Extension has been busy doing research in the Upper Peninsula and wants to share results with farmers and agribusiness employees.

The public is invited to join and review local solutions for farming issues like variety selection, pest monitoring and fertility management. MSU Extension research is diverse covering several commodities like potatoes, peas and oats, alfalfa, hay and novel berries.

The Menominee location will discuss composting paper mill residuals.
