Tasty Reads group to gather

MARQUETTE — Tasty Reads, a book group for readers who like to cook, will focus on “A Thousand Days in Venice: An Unexpected Romance” by Marlena de Blasi at its noon Tuesday meeting in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room.

Marlena is a divorced American chef, traveling through Italy, speaking only food-related Italian. Fernando is a local bank manage in Venice, who knows little English, and who falls in love with Marlena at first sight. Theirs is an unlikely love story, held together by a love of Italian food.

This memoir has been chosen in conjunction with One Book One Community’s 2017 selection Wolf’s Mouth by John Smolens.

Share thoughts about the book and a recipe inspired by it. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4303.

Audubon group will meet

MARQUETTE — On Wednesday, the Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society will present a program called “The Patagonia Effect…version 2.scot.stewart” given by well-known birder, and bird-photographer, Dr. J.D. Phillips.

The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Peter White Public Library. This program will feature J.D.’s photography. As he explains, “When a gaggle of birders chases a rare bird, they often find other, unexpected, rarities as well. That’s the Patagonia effect. We document this effect, from the north woods and beyond. And we give it a Yooper update (as an homage to our favorite bird writer), just for kicks.”

The program is free and open to the public. Call 226-6749.

The purpose is to increase awareness and appreciation for individual faiths and the common ground among all the world’s major religions.

The Baha’i Faith will be explored at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library. There is no cost for the presentation.
