Carnegie has book sale

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Carnegie Friends of the Library are offering used mystery books at the price of six for $1 throughout the month of October.

The selection can be found in Friends Corner on the library’s main floor.

The Friends Group is also selling $5 Younkers coupon booklets as a fundraiser.

The entire amount from the sale of the booklets will go to library programs, and they can be purchased at the librarians’ desk.


Kid Ace to perform at NMU

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Platform Personalities will host a performance by illusionist Kid Ace as part of NMU Family Weekend festivities at 8 p.m. Friday in room 1100 Jamrich Hall. This family friendly event is free to attend.

Kid Ace blends modern music and fashion with the world of illusion.

According to his website, Kid Ace is ”mystifying audiences around the country; he is becoming one of magic’s newest stars.”

He has completed multiple world tours in his career and is currently on a 70-show U.S. tour.


Preschool has openings

MARQUETTE — Redeemer Lutheran Preschool currently has openings in a 4-year-old morning class, 4-year-old afternoon classes and 3-year-old afternoon class.

For the afternoon 3-year-old class, children who turn 3 on or before Dec. 31 and are potty trained may enroll for a later start date.

A Christian-based curriculum, which includes art, music, gym, literacy, snack and free play, allows for a full, stimulating educational experience.

A child care option is available for those enrolled in the preschool.

Redeemer Lutheran Preschool is located at 1700 W. Fair Ave., Marquette.

Softies Hike starts Friday

MARQUETTE — The North Country Trail Hikers Fall 2017 Softies Hike is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct. 8.

For a little history about these Softies Hikes go to http://northcountrytrail.org/nct/Softies.htm Currently the hikers are on their second “walk across da UP” and heading east.
