Pianist Hong performs tonight
MARQUETTE — Professional pianist Alpin Hong will give a public concert at 7 p.m. today at Kaufman Auditorium, 611 N. Front St., Marquette. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for anyone over age 62 and free to students. Proceeds will go toward refurbishing Kaufman’s Steinway piano.

MARQUETTE — Tickets are on sale for the Landmark Inn’s annual Evening of Elegance, a fundraiser for the Women’s Center’s programs and its shelter, Harbor House that will be Oct. 21 at the Landmark Inn. All food is donated by local food vendors. Landmark Inn chefs and guest chefs prepare a creative five-course epicurean dinner for the occasion.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and a bucket raffle in the lobby of the hotel. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. with a live auction in the Harbor Room. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Women’s Center.
This year the Women’s Center will honor Holly Greer at the event. Greer was Marquette’s first female mayor, the first executive director of the Women’s Center, and the driving force behind Marquette’s multi-use path along the lake shore which today is known as the Holly Greer Shoreline Bikepath. She has blazed a path in our community.
Dinner tickets are $100. Bucket raffle tickets are available before the event at a discounted rate of $20 for 15 tickets or at the event at a rate of $20 for 10 tickets. For tickets or for more information, contact the Women’s Center at 906-225-1236.
NAMIWalk is Saturday
MARQUETTE — NAMIWalks is among the largest mental health fundraising and awareness events in America.
Through NAMIWalks’ public, active display of support for people affected by mental illness, advocates are changing how Americans view individuals with a mental illness and ensuring that help and hope are available for those in need.
The Alger/Marquette team (The Solidarity Strollers) is participating in the 2017 NAMIWalks event. The funds they raise support training for mental health programs they offer free of charge, like “Family-to-Family” and “Homefront.”
The public is invited to Al Quaal Recreation Area Saturday for have a short walk at 11 a.m.and Potluck Picnic at noon. The team is providing sloppy joes and sub sandwiches. Bring food or just come to show support.

Animal swap coming up
MARQUETTE — The Northern Poultry, Pigeon, and Rabbit Club has announced its fall 2017 swap season.
The next swap will be held on Saturday at the Stephenson Marketing Coop in Stephenson. Another swap will take place on Oct. 7, at the Marinette Farm and Garden in Marinette, Wisconsin. The last swap of the fall season will be held on Oct. 14, at the Peshtigo Feed Mill in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.
All the swaps will run from 8 a.m. to noon, local time, rain or shine. The public is invited.
