IHS homecoming parade set

ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming High School Homecoming Parade starts at 6 p.m. Friday.

The parade starts at the high school on Pearl Street east to Third Street, turns north on Third Street to Cleveland Avenue, west on Cleveland to First Street, north on First to Empire Street, west on Empire to playgrounds.

Each of the high school classes will have a float with anyone in the class available walking behind it. The flag football players and Birchview cheerleaders will also be in the parade.


Autism topic of presentation

MARQUETTE — Psychologist Mary Pelton-Cooper will give a presentation titled “Psychotherapy with People on the Autism Spectrum: A Clinician’s Perspective” Friday at Northern Michigan University.

The event begins at 3 p.m. in 1322 Jamrich Hall. It is part of the Department of Psychological Science Colloquium Series.

Pelton-Cooper, who has a private practice, will discuss the challenges and rewards of treating people with mild Autism Spectrum Disorder. She will also report on the LifeMAP life management assistance program she attended at the Asperger’s Autism Network in Boston, Massachusetts.


Legion fish fry resumes Friday

MARQUETTE — The American Legion will begin its fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the post, 700 W. Bluff St. There is a choice of whitefish, shrimp, or chicken strips plus french fries or baked potato. All meals include cole slaw. The public is welcome.


Bayou Bash set for Saturday

HARVEY — The inagural Chocolay Bayou Birthday Bash will run from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Chocolay Township Marina.

There will be a guided birding hike, guided plant hike, a plein air painting demonstration, kids events and games, rubber duck races, watercraft races, a birch bark canoe demonstration, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, live music, food trucks and refreshments. People may bring their canoes or kayaks.

The event will celebrate the first anniversary of the new Chocolay Bayou Nature Preserve, the steward of which is the Upper Peninsula Land Conservancy.

Community dinner Sunday

ISHPEMING — Chicken and rice will be served at the next Community Dinner at Hope Free Lutheran Church in west Ishpeming at 5 p.m. Sunday. The meal is free of charge and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the church office at 485-5714.
