Cash is a 1-year-old male domestic shorthair available through UPAWS.

News from UPAWS

On Wednesday, UPAWS Shelter broke ground on our new facility and we are excited to retire our 40-year-old facility and find OUR new home. Animal intake and services have grown dramatically since our inception 40 years ago, but not the shelter space. Beyond the small building size, other issues compound the problem of providing a healthy and comfortable space for homeless animals. Building issues include: poor ventilation, power shortages, low water pressure, uneven heat distribution, mold, leaking roof, and close, small quarters creating high-stress levels for animals.

UPAWS is a part of the movement in redefining the shelter as a beacon of hope, a place where the environment contributes to successful adoption rates and decreases the number of stray animals through aggressive messaging on the importance of spay/neuter programs and responsible pet ownership.

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is getting closer to our goal to build an animal shelter that can be more than JUST an animal shelter- it can be an animal community center. UPAWS has raised $2.4 M and almost $90,000 of our $100,000 matching gift in memory of Joan Steindler! Will you give today to double the impact of YOUR gift.

Imagine what we can accomplish when we are not fighting our building.

Imagine the PAWSibilities.

Community members are encouraged to go to upaws.org, stop by the shelter, or send check or pledge to PO Box 968, Marquette, MI 49855 and mark it for the new shelter. Give today to double the impact of your gift! Call (906) 475-6661 or email ktossava@upaws.org for more information.
