Negaunee City Band to perform

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Band plays its weekly concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

Guest conductor is Gordon Erickson, band director at Westwood High School. The band will pay tribute to those who have served in our country’s armed services with “Armed Forces Salute.”

Featured marches are a quintessential Spanish march, “Espana Cani,” “Children of the Shrine,” dedicated to the Shriners’ Children’s Hospitals, and Sousa’s “Liberty Bell.”

“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is a medley featuring several Beatles’ songs, including “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and “With a Little Help from My Friends.”

Other selections include “Kentucky 1800,” based on American folk songs, and “In Paths of Truth and Grace,” based on a familiar hymn tune. Two especially lively numbers are “Grand Galop Comique” and “Tiptoe through the Tubas.

As usual, the closing number will be “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
