Blues jam session held May 30
MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library and the Marquette Area Blues Society would like to invite music lovers to a blues jam session on Tuesday, May 30 at 7 p.m. in the Peter White Library’s community room, part of our monthly Bluesday Tuesday series.
Bring your voice, guitar, harmonica, bass, trombone, trumpet, saxophone or whatever you play to jam along with other blues musicians. Learn something new or brush up on your blues style. All are welcome, including listeners.

MI Health Link lunch program
MARQUETTE — Health insurance coverage is a daily discussion today.
In uncertain times what is known is that the MI Health Link health care plan, a new Medicare option, is being offered to adults ages 21 and older who have both Medicaid and Medicare and live in the Upper Peninsula. With this plan the individual has Medicare/Medicaid coverage with enhancements. There are no out of pocket costs for the person enrolled.
To learn more about the health care plan, a free lunch program will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Michigan and Huron Rooms at the University Center at Northern Michigan University in Marquette.
These events are being brought to the Upper Peninsula by a collaboration of agencies who want to assist beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries by providing them with clear information on health care plans.
The Neighborhood Lunch & Learns are offered free of charge. What is required is a registration. It is also required that you are 21 and older and have Medicare and Medicaid (with no deductible). To register, those interested can call 1-800-760-4600 ext. 318 and register with Anita who is with the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition.
Family members, caregivers, and guardians are also welcome at this event, but are limited to one per attendee. Free transportation is available but must be arranged by calling Anita at 1-800-760-4600 ext. 318. For those who drive themselves, forms will be available for reimbursement.
Memorial Day service in Champion
CHAMPION — Berle LaPin Veteran’s Memorial Park in Champion will be the site of a Memorial Day service at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 28.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Mike Carriere. The Champion Volunteer Fire Department will serve as Color Guard.
Refreshments will be served.
Memorial Day events in Gwinn
GWINN — The Memorial Day schedule for the Gwinn VFW and American Legion of Little Lake is:
9:30 a.m., a brief ceremony will be held at Nordeen Park
10 a.m., parade to Gwinn cemetery
10:45 a.m., memorial service at cemetery
The VFW people will proceed to Bakkala Cemetery on M-35 immediately after the service.
At 12:30 p.m., the American Legion will have a service at McFarland Cemetery then at 2:30 pm., the American Legion will have a service at West Branch Cemetery.
12th annual Cemetery Walk held
MARQUETTE — 12th annual Cemetery Walk — WWI Remembered Offering two tours on Thursday, June 1, from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Park Cemetery. Meet at the Seventh Street cemetery gate.
To mark the 100 anniversary of WWI, hear the compelling stories of men and women who served both at home and abroad. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten. ‘Blithe Spirit’ at Calumet Theatre
