UPCC conference set for Friday
MARQUETTE — The U.P. Children’s Coalition conference, “Strengthening Families Through the Protective Factors Framework,” will run from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Friday in the Great Lakes Rooms in the University Center at Northern Michigan University.
The conference is open to human services professionals throughout the Upper Peninsula. Keynote speaker Michelle Chenier, technical assistance specialist for the Early Childhood Investment Corp., will help attendees identify strategies, steps and everyday actions they can use in their work to build these protective factors.
Karen Straub, prevention coordinator for the Wexford/Missaukee Child Protection Council, will address “distracted parenting” and the effects of using technology around children.
Community dance in Trenary
TRENARY — A dance is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Trenary Community Building.
Music will be provided by Cedar Creek. Admission is $5 with a lunch available for a $3 donation starting at 4 p.m.

Hope Free sponsoring dinner
ISHPEMING — Smoked pork loin and twice baked potato will be served at the next Community Dinner at Hope Free Lutheran Church in west Ishpeming at 5 p.m. Sunday. The dinner is free of charge and all are welcome.
