“St. Catty’s Day” — The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter’s “St. Catty’s Day” adoption event continues until this date. People can go to UPAWS during this special “St. Catty’s Day” celebration and save a pot o’ gold. UPAWS will be holding the “St. Catty’s Day” adoption event. Cats and kittens 6 months and older, are available for adoption at a reduced fee of $25. Includes spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip and more. Science Olympiad — The Northern Michigan University Seaborg Center will mark its 30th anniversary hosting a Science Olympiad. About 325 students from throughout the Upper Peninsula will compete in 46 events facilitated by more than 125 volunteers. The Science Olympiad runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the West Science and New Science Buildings, with an awards ceremony at about 4:30 p.m. in Jamrich 1100.

Quilts — In honor of National Quilting Day, the Marquette County Quilters Association will host an event open to the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. The event is a celebration of quilting, past and present. MCQA members will offer demonstrations and exhibits, and will give attendees the chance to learn basic quilting with their own “make-and-take” projects. Visitors can also mingle with members of the MCQA as they display their quilts in various stages of completion.

Family Game Day — a fundraiser featuring games, food and drinks, raffle, silent auction — is planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 111 E. Ridge St., Marquette, in the lower-level social room. Tickets are ages 0-4: free; ages 5-12: $5; students: $6; seniors: $7; adults: $9; and families of three or four: $20. Pow Wow — The 24th annual “Learning to Walk Together” traditional pow wow at Northern Michigan University will be held in Vandament Arena. General admission is $5; NMU students are admitted free with ID. Doors open at 11 a.m., with grand entries at noon and 6 p.m. The pow wow feast will take place from 4-6 p.m. at the NMU Jacobetti Complex.

Benefit — A benefit for Mike “Sarge” Brady will take place starting at 11 a.m. at Sturgis Saloon, Skandia. The event will be a pool tournament: $25 participation fee with money due on the day of the benefit. Pre-register by contacting Angie or Nadeen at Sturgis, 906-942-7785. It will be a blind singles tournament depending on the amount of participants. It will be double elimination.

Open house — Northern Michigan University will host a Career Exploration Open House at the Jacobetti Complex to showcase available career and technical education programs. The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants can enter for a chance to win a $500 NMU scholarship, tour the learning labs and talk with faculty and current students.
